VCA Residential Cricket Academy
Vidarbha Cricket Association in its Endeavour to promote and develop quality cricket among juniors is all set to start a Residential Cricket Academy from June'09, one each in Nagpur, Amravati, Shegaon and Wardha respectively. Around 120 trainees between the age group of (13-16, 16-19) are expected to be benefited by this effort. According to the policy of BCCI, the respective Associations are required to have its own Cricket Academy and VCA has already developed its main centre at VCA, Civil Lines. The other three centres at Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal, Amravati, Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering, Shegaon and Radhikabai Meghe Education Trust ground at Wardha are being developed and is expected to be operational soon.
Sixty trainees selected through a talent scouting programme from the districts and Nagpur city will be housed in VCA Nagpur Cricket Academy, while the other ninety trainees i.e. thirty each will be housed separately at Hanuman Vyamyam Prasarak Mandal, Amravati, Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering, Shegaon and Radhikabai Meghe Education Trust, Wardha.
The Academy will provide professional coaching to young cricketers, along with fundamentals of cricket and develop culture of excellence in an environment in which real learning takes place striking a fine balance between challenge and support.
It will be at the residential academy, where the selected boys would be playing cricket as their chosen career and will stay in Hostel accommodation provided by Academy. The entire facilities for Cricket including academies i.e. schooling in city schools for boys would be provided by VCA. The facilities include ultra modern infrastructure like Indoor Practice Wickets, Swimming Pools, Gymnasium, Video Analysis, Yoga & Meditation Room and an Internal Cricket ground to practice on as many 15 turfs and matches to play. Updated modern equipments required for coaching and development of Cricket will also be provided at the Centre. The outstation coachers are also being housed at the academy premises.
An Inter District Tournaments as selection trials in the age group of 13 to 16 and 16 to 19 was organized in Feb.'09, for respective district teams and its taluka teams. 15 players were selected by the VCA Selectors, from the respective age group. The teams were required to play in Under 16, five boys in the playing eleven of every match in their team. the main aim was to provide the young talent from the small places an opportunity to put himself for selection from the talukas and districts.
Around 250 boys from various schools of Under 13 age group of Vidarbha also attended a camp and 60 boys were short listed, for selection of Vidarbha (Under 13) team which later participated in Cadence Trophy Under 13 at Pune and finished up as the runner up.
In the month of April fresh selection trials for the academy was also conducted by Head Coach of the Academy Mr. Neil D'costa (Australia) along with Messers Subroto Banerjee, Prashant Vaidya (former Indian fast bowler) Sulakshan Kulkarni (Former Ranji Trophy Captain, Mumbai) and ably assisted by the Local Coaches of Vidarbha Cricket Association. The Academy will also have Messers Saba Karim (Ex. Indian Cricketer & Wicketkeeper), Narendra Hirwani (Ex. Indian Cricketer) as visiting faculty coaches.
Prashant Vaidya (Ex. Indian Cricketer) is the Director of the Academy.
